New figures released today by Halifax unsecured personal loans show that men are far more likely to apply for a loan via the net than women.
The research shows that men were 50% more likely* to apply for a loan over the net than women.
Max Vialou-Clark, head of business development at Halifax unsecured personal loans, comments: "The number of online applications has more than doubled in the last three years and shows no signs of slowing. However, the gap between the number of men and women applying online shows no signs of narrowing and has remained constant for the last few years."
The research also showed that singles are more likely to shop for a loan online than people who are married. Nearly half (46%) of all online applications are made by singles. Just over a third come from married couples (37%) and only one in 20 from divorcees (5%).
Max Vialou-Clark continues: "Perhaps unsurprisingly, office workers were far more likely to make an application online than any other occupation. Given that most applications can be made in a relatively short amount of time, we find that many people will look to secure a loan by applying whilst at work."
Londoners showed they were the most web-wise, accounting for just over one in five (23%) of all applications made online. However, this was only slightly ahead of the North West & Northern Ireland which accounted for 20%. Scots were least likely to apply for a loan online, with just over 6% of all applications.
NOP World Financial research showed that in 2004 13.5 million people used some sort of financial services online (48% of all Internet users). Of these 13.5 million, 84% search, compare or get a quote**.
Max Vialou-Clark concludes: "Conducting your personal finances online has the obvious advantages in terms of convenience and ease of use. Quick loan approval decisions and highly competitive pricing mean that those with access to the web can get a great deal at the touch of a button."
